Galco International, LTD was founded by Richard N. Gallagher in 1969 as a small family business in Chicago, Illinois. Then known as The Famous Jackass Leather Company, the name took its inspiration from Ricks stubborn adherence to the highest standards of quality. Jackass, as it was commonly called, was originally a custom leather shop and showroom displaying every imaginable leather product. From sheepskin jackets to handbags, sandals to hats, and wallets to horsehide holsters, everything was made on site.
